The network premiere of The Division, featuring Mad Men's John Hamm alongside an all-star cast, focuses on the lives of five female homicide inspectors in the San Francisco Police Department.

The Division, headed up by Captain Kate McCafferty (Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominee Bonnie Bedelia), is a fast paced, action packed police drama which also tracks the personal trials and tribulations of these five dynamic policewomen.

The first season of the show sees the inspectors deal with teenage gangs toting machine guns, crime lord warfare, immigrant slave labour, the dark side of the drug trade, extortion and prostitution. Their dedication to these dangerous daily duties leaves their complicated personal lives lacking at times.

Inspector Candace De Lorenzo (Tracey Needham) is the envy of her colleagues due to her success in holding down a happy marriage coupled with her outstanding reputation following ten years on the force. Behind this facade, she is an unhappily married woman coming to terms with a cheating husband and trying to get along with her fiery sidekick, Inspector Angela Reid (Lela Rachon). Meanwhile, struggling single mother Inspector Magda Ramirez (Lisa Vidal) is desperately trying to avoid getting into a complicated relationship with her attractive married partner Peter Torianno (David Gianopoulos).

Following Peter's unexpected departure from the force, Inspector Ramirez is paired up with the tearaway of the team, Jinny Exstead (Nancy McKeon). Jinny's destructive relationship with alcohol is made worse by the fact that she remains tied to an abusive ex-boyfriend who fathered her young son. It is through the help and support of Inspector Ramirez, that Jinny is able to begin to put her life back in order.

Season two sees Inspector Reid leave the Division, to be replaced by the sarcastic and cynical Inspector Nate Basso (Jon Hamm) who, due to his intimidating demeanour, inevitably shifts the balance of the Division.

Themes of crime and real life drama are present throughout this premiere series, broadcast every weeknight on CBS Drama at 9pm.
